What is Extrait De Parfum?

Perfume strengths, also known as concentrations, define the intensity and longevity of a fragrance. They denote the amount of fragrance oil diluted in a solvent, typically alcohol or water, within a perfume formulation. The concentration of fragrance oil directly influences the scent's potency and overall character.

Natural components are recognized for their tendency to undergo rapid evolution and evaporation. Conversely, synthetic ingredients contribute equilibrium and longevity to a blend.

Each fragrance possesses a distinct concentration of scent, dictating the potency of both the oils and alcohol within the formula.

Determining a perfume's intensity is accomplished through the delineation of the fragrance pyramid.

At the pinnacle of perfume strengths is known as Extrait de Parfum or Perfume. Parfum boasts the highest concentration of fragrance oil, usually ranging from 25% to 40%. This concentration offers an exceptionally intense and long-lasting scent experience, often lasting 6 to 8 hours or more on the skin. Due to its potency, Parfum is often the most expensive option and is typically presented in small, ornate bottles.

Following Extrait de Parfum is Eau de Parfum (EDP), which contains a slightly lower concentration of fragrance oil, typically ranging from 15% to 20%. EDP provides a strong and enduring scent experience, lasting around 4 to 6 hours on the skin. It strikes a balance between potency and versatility, making it a popular choice for everyday wear.

Eau de Toilette (EDT) is the next tier of perfume strength, with a concentration typically ranging from 5% to 15% fragrance oil. EDT offers a lighter and more subtle scent experience compared to Eau de Parfum, lasting around 2 to 4 hours on the skin. It is a versatile option suitable for various occasions and often more affordable than EDP.

Eau de Cologne (EDC) features the lowest concentration of fragrance oil among perfume strengths, typically ranging from 2% to 5%. EDC provides a refreshing and invigorating scent experience, ideal for hot weather or casual occasions. It is often used as a body splash or aftershave.

Lastly, Eau Fraîche has the lowest concentration of fragrance oil, usually around 1% to 3%. This light and refreshing perfume strength offer a subtle and fleeting scent experience, lasting for less than an hour on the skin. Eau Fraîche is commonly used as a body mist or splash, suitable for quick refreshment or layering with other fragrances.

Understanding the differences in perfume strengths allows consumers to select a scent that aligns with their preferences for intensity, longevity, and budget, ensuring a personalized olfactory experience for every occasion.
